"Jim"
Quiet Quibble: To a cute kitten by the name of Kitty." |
August 27, 2007
Good morning to all my classmates, this is my story and I am sticking to it.
By James R. Waters, Class of 1961.
In 1961 the Newark High School had the good since to set me free of their shackles of school life upon this old world. After a short time of freedom, I had the good fortune to get into a little trouble, but to the wisdom of a nice man on a bench in the city of Newark, Ohio I was given two choices as what to do with my life; spend a little time doing civic work or go to work for the Government for 3 years, which I having a sound mind choose to do the latter.
After having spent a 3 year tour with the Government (U.S. Army) I was turned loose again on the city of Newark, Ohio. Upon my return I married a lady from Newark and we raised a son. All this time while in civilian life I drove a truck around the country for the next twenty years. After a few tough years and having raised our Son we called it quits and went our separate ways.
I then moved to Columbus, Ohio where I met another lady and after a while remarried. Her name was Barbara A. Sigmon who was a widow and had three children whom we raised. I still drove a truck around the country until 2002 when I retired after 40 years. We have 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and enjoy them very much.
Now after retiring I had the good fortune to reunite with and old friend and classmate (Mr Dale Wiley from the great state of Florida) He has taught me a lot about the computer world and how to use it, now saying all that I have been able to connect with a lot of my now older classmates and enjoy sending and receiving e-mails from them also.
With my retirement time now I have had time to enjoy my hobbies such as wood working and golf and just doing nothing at all if I chose to do so.
But with my free time I had the good chance to work with Mr Wiley on our last reunion (45th) and it was great talking with our classmates and reuniting.
Now I enjoyed that so much that I have along with a couple other classmates (Gene Henry and Bill Snyder) organized a FUNction where we and several other classmates meet and talk about old times and enjoy each other's company.
We have grown from 3 people to about 17 now and still growing.
We get together about every 6 weeks, anyone else interested in joining the Group when in the Newark Area can get a hold of me, Bill, or Gene, and join in the fun.
Now that is my story and I am sticking to it.

Hi Dale,
Finally, as promised, am enclosing my copies of the “Reveille Review” that I have saved for far too long. The June, 1961 is a bit chopped up as there was an article I wanted to save the original. I did add copies to the paper.
(17 Reveille Reviews from November 21, 1958 to June 1961)
Also, have enclosed a picture of”57(if my math is correct) Newark Township 8th grade graduating class. Too funny! I tried to identify as many classmates as possible. I have also included a couple of menus from hang-outs. Charbert’s Drive In, 4352 E Broad St and Emil’s Steer Inn, 4484 East main Street both in Columbus. Just love the prices. A 1 lb T-bone steak, $3.10 or a Cheeseburger and Fries $.65! Why I have saved these I will never know, but thought you might get a kick out of seeing them. If you have a memorabilia table at the next reunion some might like to see the above items or add to web site if you desire.
I have been able to locate Gwen Owen. She is in California, but due to move to New Mexico in the near future. Hesitate to pass along more info as I feel it is up to her. Have informed her of the web site, and that you are trying to locate her also, I used to see sue Callander at least once a year when we lived in Bay Village and thereafter. She was/is advisor to the bay rockets, the Bay Village high school dance team. Know that they moved to Westlake a few years ago, but am not sure she is still there. Her husband is Len Friedle and I know their son Brad was/is very active in soccer. He was on the USA team and I believe now has a soccer training camp or the like. I did check the phone book. There is no listing at this time.
Please post my email address on the NHS web site. It is:
patrick016@centurytel.net
As for the bio I haven’t taken the time to do anything yet. Have had a great life, though simple and fairly uneventful we have two girls, Trish and Kathi. Trish and family live in Rocky River. Kathi and family live in Westerville. We have four grandchildren. Kathi’s son Patrick will be attending Miami U this fall. Trish’s three are one, five and eight. Needless to say, they are all our pride and joy.
We moved from Bay Village to the country fifteen years ago. If you can believe it, I missed small town Newark. I always will be a barefoot county girl. My mom ended up in the Cleveland area and spent her last years with us. She was 95 when she passed a couple of years ago. It was great to have her close by as the girls were growing up; she was the only living grandparent they had.
Our latest endeavor has been getting involved in dog rescue. Have found that instead of fostering them until we find them a home, they end up with us. We can’t stand to part with them. Have two Aussie mixes, two Golden Retrievers and a St. Bernard. Can’t believe we are doing this at this point in our lives. They do keep us laughing and bring more joy than trouble to our lives.
Have rambled much too long with probably TMI.
Thanks again for the great web site. Keep in touch.

Greetings from over the years, Dale! I stumbled over your Class of '61 website last night (while looking for Jane Shannon Shriner's email address, which I never did find), and I think it's great. You've done a wonderful job with it.
I didn't find myself on either the Missing Persons list, the known addresses list, or the Deceased Classmates list, so if you're interested, here are the vital statistics:
Email:
tltower@earthlink.net
Address: 2834 E. Locust St
Emmett, Idaho 83617
I recently retired from a career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, first as a forester, then as GIS/IT Specialist, and am currently doing a little consulting in GIS and other computer mapping. Short term plans include a move back to central Ohio within a year, to pursue an interest in family history.
Once again, congratulations on the website. I've been a webmaster, and certainly appreciate hard work and quality when I see it.
May 26, 2007 Follow-up
Boy, do I ever agree with you in, ". . .or maybe I could have seen you in recent years for all I know"! I looked at the 45th reunion picture and hardly recognized a soul.
Since you asked what I've been doing with myself for 45 years, here's a brief bio:
Graduated 1965 from Michigan State U, degree in forestry. No jobs in forestry at the time, but I'd been in Air Force ROTC, so in I went for six years. Minuteman II launch crew but never had to do it, thank goodness. Collected a MS from Univ North Dakota while I was babysitting missiles.
Left the AF in 1971 and dinked around a few years in northern Minnesota before finally getting a job in forestry with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and there I stayed for a career except for a ten-year break trying (unsuccessfully) to start a forest nursery business. Made the switch from forestry to computer geek over 20 years ago, and love it. Retired from the BIA in Boise, Idaho, last December, but am still a consulting geek, mostly in computer mapping.
First marriage lasted ten years and produced a daughter and a son; second marriage is at 30 years and counting, also with a son and a daughter. Three grandsons with the first son.
Immediate plans are to leave this Great Basin (read "desert wasteland") soon and move back to central Ohio; we're looking at the Lancaster area. Have to have a little something for the old forester, and the Wayne Natl Forest is there. We'll be in Newark this July, and hope to attend the semi-monthly mini-reunion with Jane Shannon Shriner and Company. Provided that I haven't shuffled off this mortal coil by 2011, count me in on the 50th. In fact, I'd be glad to help get ready for it.
Attached picture is three years old, but it's close. I'm back row, middle; my wife Bev is in the red blouse, and the rest are the family mentioned above, sans oldest daughter Lisa. At least now you won't pass me on the street. Or alternatively, you will see me coming and can cross over to the other side.
I always answer emails from all and sundry, and would very much like to hear from any of the old classmates.

Here's a little bio for posting:
Even though I haven't been back to Newark in over 40 years, life has been pretty
good.
After NHS, I went to Kenyon. My family moved back to CT while
I was at Kenyon.
After college I spent 3+ years in the Navy. Nothing too bad
happened except I lost a few Kenyon friends in Vietnam.
Law school in Boston after that and then back to CT, where
I've been ever since. I worked at two law firms and then moved over to what was
one of the best clients of my firm. I've been general counsel of a private real
estate company for almost 20 years now and am starting to think about
retirement.
In 1968 I married one of the bridesmaids at my sister's (she
graduated from Granville HS in 1970) wedding and she still puts up with me. We
have one daughter who lives close enough that she comes over for dinner
frequently. Cooking has become a great passions and I've actually worked
(without pay of course) in the kitchens of a few fancy restaurants.
I'm really looking forward to seeing at lot of old friends.
BTW, the check is in the mail and tell Molly I'm coming to
the reunion.

August 03, 2006
Even though I never lived in Ohio after the age of 21, I have never forgotten my
Newark friends and always look forward to seeing them. There are countless
stories and many fond memories. My husband was in the Marines for 25 years and
we lived in Florida, North Carolina, and California. Ten years ago we moved to
Fountain Hills, Arizona.
We have one son, Ryan who is 28, and lives in Anaheim, Ca. He graduated from
Berkley with an English degree, and plans to go back to school in the fall for
his teaching certification.
I was a silversmith for many years, and now have a small gift shop in Fountain
Hills. In the summer, I take people on tours of the Navajo, Hopi, and Zuni
Reservations. I also have a non profit organization called The Southwest
Cultures Club. www.swculturesclub.org
It is a club dedicated to promote the understanding and appreciation of Native
Americans and other cultures in the Southwest.
Looking forward to hearing from classmates.

Hi Dale,
I would like to establish contact with Buddy Carlson. Do you have either his
e-mail address or telephone number?
Regarding our reunion I am not yet sure whether I will attend. Although I
retired 10 years ago at age 54, my personal time is still demand.
We can converse later. Thank you for your help regarding Buddy.
July 29, 2006
Hi Dale,
I have been putting several new persons into my computer address book. Your name
and address was the last one. I want to make sure it works. Please confirm.
For your information, I am corresponding with Buddy Carlson and finally met-up
with him in Springfield, OH today at a martial arts competition. Buddy was and
remains a good friend. He is a good person. He did put some pressure on me to
attend the reunion. I did not commit to attend because of logistical problems. I
told him we can talk later.
I purposely have not sent you a bio; however, life has been well. I prefer to
not discuss employment because much of it was highly classified. I may attend
the reunion. That probability is increasing, especially after seeing Buddy
today.
July 30, 2006
Hi Dale,
I wrote to Buddy last night mentioning I shall at least attend Friday at Tony's.
Regarding Saturday night, my impression has been that is for spouses also. My
wife does not want to attend and stifle me. Buddy has yet to convince me to
attend both Friday and Saturday. Doing so remains unresolved.
So far, Tony's on Friday seems fine. Susan still has friends in Newark. She does
not want to go to Tony's, again the stifle thing, but she will drop me off there
and pick me up later. She agreed to doing so after I said I did not want to
attend the session at Tony's, have some fun, drink a few beers, and then drive
to wherever I would stay.
You may send copies of my messages to anyone, especially Buddy, my good, old
friend. He put some subtle pressure on me at the Karate tournament. Although it
was subtle I sensed he knew it was sufficient. He was right.
I learned respect via Karate and if my first Sensi says you need to attend the
reunion I shall do so.

(Cc: of a note to Judy Mercer)
Hi Judy,
I do not remember you being at our house on 29th Street for burgers. The memory
has become selective.
I do very well remember your note on the playground to me at Cherry Valley. I do
not remember whether it was part way through the 1st grade or in the 2nd grade.
I only remember starting school at Central and then we moved to 29th St. I did
not know you then; however, you walked up to me and handed me your small note, a
couple inches square. It said: "I love you. Do you love me?" There were two
spaces wherein I could check yes or no. I remember thinking what do I do with
this? I finally thought, well, ok, why not. It was only 1st or 2nd grade. I
checked yes and gave it back to you. We were good friends for a while, but I do
not remember what happened to us.
Yes, we share the same birthday. It must mean we would not have been compatible!
My father passed away when I was 15 and still living on 29th Street. Mother
re-married. Mother passed away several years ago, and my step-father passed away
about a month ago. My brother, Bruce, still lives in Newark on Alford Drive.
Life has been well. Academically, undergraduate and graduate school was paid for
me after serving in the Marine Corps and scholarships. Good employment resulted,
and I was able to retire at age 54.
I married Susan Kay Taylor from Hebron. We have two children and two
grandchildren after 38 years of marriage.
I may attend this reunion. I hope to see you at our 50th. Never forget, I
checked the box indicating: "I love you."

Dale:
First, thanks from all of us for bringing the NHS class of 61 back together. It
really is fun to read what old friends have been doing. I'll bet many of our
teachers would be amazed at how well we turned out.
Here is the Cliff Notes version of life since NHS. My wife Sandy and I will be
married 35-years this December. We have three children and two grandchildren and
are blessed that they all live nearby.
While I was getting my degree at Ohio State and after graduation I worked as a
DJ at WCOL and WTVN radio and then as Program Director of WKRC in Cincinnati.
After a few years in public relations, I started a production company in and
have been a video producer/director for nearly 30 years. Two of our children
majored in video production at OU and now work with me. Our oldest daughter is a
youth minister….Lord knows the rest of us need all the help we can get! Sandy
has been a pre-school teacher for over 20 years and has a music enrichment
program. Everyday is still great fun and I've never even considered retiring.
We live in Northwest Columbus and are fortunate enough to cross paths with some
of our Newark classmates from time to time. Scott and Susan (Roan) Marzano are
great friends that we try to get together with as often as possible.
Making it to the reunion this time isn't going to work out, but hopefully in
2011. Again, Dale, thanks for a job very well done.

Thanks for the comments on our web site, but the countless hours of work you
have invested in the class site is really impressive. You have the address
nearly right: 1320 Marlyn Drive, Columbus 43220. Office 614-442-3399, home

This is just an update for you, but when I get a moment I'll try to send you a
few lines for your bio section.
We have some out-of-state production scheduled in August, but we'll do
everything possible to make it back to Newark. If that happens we can talk about
a short video.

Quiet Quibble: A band director who manages to be maddening and lovable at
the same time." |
June 3, 2006
Hi, This is Bonnie Buckwalter/Conaway/Kelley and Link just forwarded your email
to him or his to you, or whatever the heck you guys are doing. Anyway, I got
your letter and will not be attending, as I have no family back in Newark at
this time, and my hubby's family is all here in WVa and VA. (Actually the real
reason I won't be attending, is that I looked at the past Pics of reunions, and
I have no clue who you OLD PEOPLE are!!!!
Certainly not my classmates! )
So, if you want any updates from me, Link and I had one son, David, who is now
much too old to claim and had adopted another son, Scott, just prior to that and
were married about 9 yrs. Then in 1977 I married my present darlin', Pete, who
is a West-by God-Virginia boy. A year after we married we got fulltime custody
of his three sons, so that made five little boys. They have produced 6
grandchildren, with another one on the way.
I went to Ohio State/NE Missouri State and got a secondary teaching degree;
taught two years and then went into Personnel Mgt., directed a couple of
non-profits, but mostly was a stay-at-home mom to all those boys.
Now I'm into helping my 88 yr. old mom, whom I moved here a few years ago,
working in my yard, church work, etc. Pete and I are learning western
line-dancing. Hope you won't hold that against us!
Hope that brings you up to speed; you had the address right. Tell McClenahan, an
old flame, that I should come back just to see him in that silly outfit! I had
heard that he and Joanie had married a couple of years ago. They look like
they're havin' fun.
Don't think we ever really knew one another; I was into band and otherwise was a
quiet, shy dorky kind of person. (Wonder whatever happened to her?) Life is
weird, but I'm not ready for the alternative!
You have a great time; thanks for finding me! Bonnie

Hi Dale and "Nerkites"
We are truly blessed to have your expertise and unselfish effort to host this
website, but are those glasses the same ones from high school with a tint? lol
Bio from HS seems like a novel= undergrad OSU, medical school Missouri,
Internship-Residency-GI Fellowship=Columbus, practiced 3 yrs in Albuquerque NM,
3 years in Tucson AZ, 3 years in Landstuhl West Germany and 23 yrs in Columbus
doing "Butts & Guts"= gastroenterology! (Never found that perfect A_ _ hole, but
met a few Drs. that were close!)
I have 2 still single sons from my 1st wife and HS sweetheart classmate, Bonnie
Buckwalter-and we are still friends. Two gorgeous step daughters with 5
grandchildren from the love of my life I met in the Netherlands, but died 3 yrs
ago. I quite my practice to be a caregiver and after she died went on to seek
"New Cheese" by starting a tree nursery specializing in Buckeye trees in Powell,
Ohio, writing 2 novels- one on espionage, the other a love story- both not
published ( Mr. Kingery was right, science not English was my forte!)
I bought a second investment house on Lake Norman, off I77 north of Charlotte,
NC last year and got my NC Mortgage brokers license year and have invested and
started with my step daughter and her husband a Real Estate and Mortgage
Brokerage group, which allows me to take my 2003 Supercharged F150 Harley to all
the NASCAR events at Lowes Motor Speedway near by.
Life is good and when I find and meet that next love of my life, it will be
great.

April 19, 2006 Hi Dale,
I had replied to your web site when Pat originally sent me the web address. I

Now have 4 grandchildren.
I work at the Journal Press, Inc., came to work here 13 years ago, after we moved
from Gaithersburg, Md.
Both of us got buy outs from our former employers. Started new careers and yes
there are good jobs to be found after 50.
I sell advertising, and write feature articles for 2 magazines, and occasionally
for the newspaper. There are always deadlines to be
met and it has a lot of pressure, but most of the time I love it. No hurry to
stop working, too much stuff I want to buy and things to do yet.
I keep in touch
with Pat (Pat Sullivan) all the time, we just pick up by e-mail where we left
off last time, doesn't matter how long it has been.
I don't think I will make this one (45th Reunion) but will make one soon.
Thanks for the follow up and keep up the great web site.

April 14, 2006 Hello dale what a great web site, thanks
for all your hard work getting this site together. It is so great.
I have been married 3 times that sounds bad but that is the way it is. The first
one for 3 years-- no children.
The next for 14 years, and I have three daughters of which are a set of twins
Leslie and Lori and Amy my youngest. I also helped raise three other children
who call me mom to this day. I don't see them very often though now but their
children still call me "grandma" ha.
I have been married to my present husband for 26 years in June and we have no
children. However he has 2 sons who also call me mom. All together that is 8
children that have called me mom and lived in my home.
I worked for Ohio power for a couple of years then Westinghouse for a couple of
years, then I worked for the government at the Newark Air Force station for 25
years and my husband also worked at the Newark air force station for 30 years.
In 1996 the base was privatized and we both went to work for Boeing doing
roughly what we did for the base.
Then in 1999 I had a liver transplant because hepatitis destroyed my old liver.
I contracted "hep c" when I received some "dirty" blood some years before. And
in 2000 I went on long term disability from Boeing. My husband continues to work
for them. I am doing pretty good and very thankful to be alive. And thankful
that a family donated their loved ones, organs so I could go on living as well
as the others who received the rest of his organs.
My husband Bernie Brown and I between us have 11 grandkids I have 6 and two of
which are identical twins and my husband has 5. All total there are 6 girls and
5 boys. The other kids I raised have 9 children and they call me grandma as
well. Wow it does get costly at Christmas time.
Thanks dale, for putting this site together. It is the greatest.
You can print all of this if you want.

I know what you mean about forgetting things. They say when you get older the
first thing you lose is your memory and you can't remember the second. I am not
much for bios but yes I am still married and still working. The date of the
reunion is my 40th wedding anniversary but I would sure like to see everyone and
I will try to make it. Great job on this web-site it was fun to check it out.
Please keep me on your list and I hope to see you soon.

Hi Dale. What a great site. It's been great seeing where everyone's living
and what they are doing. You have done a great job in finding a way for all of
us to get back in touch. THANK YOU
After graduation I went to work at Park National Bank and worked until
birth of first child.
After raising two children and taking a 17 year maternity leave I went back to
work until 2003.
My husband Tom (Utica grad '61) retired from Communicolor in 2002 and is
enjoying playing farmer and raising cattle on family farm. Our son and his wife
built a house on the farm and grandkids are 5th generation to live on farm. I
guess we will be here for awhile. Our daughter is a coach and teacher at Utica
and is living on her husband's family farm.
I still live in the same place I did 40 years ago. We have raised a son and
daughter who are married and live nearby. We are lucky to have our 4
granddaughters and 1 grandson close by.
Tom and I are both retired and really enjoy the good life. I guess it's the
reason we work all those years. I recommend retirement to all.
Looking forward to hearing some blasts from the past. Stay in touch.

Hello Dale,
When looking up my pic, you probably still didn't recognize the "Hughes"
girl...
Just had a mini-reunion at Cherry Valley Lodge, Nerk, with Lynn Miller
Connelly, Sally Slay Dailey, Sally Handel Penrose, Debbie Campbell Feichter,
Carol Campbell Vermilion, Betty Retherford Barclay and Joan S.
Leave it to Joan to get info to you, otherwise, I might not have written so
soon.
In 1962, I was hired by Ohio Power with the knowledge they would be moving
to Canton, OH a year later which was a move I was looking forward to after
making friends with girls from the Canton area who had been brought to Newark
for training.
Met Ron D. and stayed in this area and enjoying the years here.
My family moved to Granville the year we got married so that was a shock
after the Nerk/Granville relationship, ha! Did spend time at Hudson Lake and the
Aladdin before my family located to the area. Have spent many years visiting my
family in Granville, and my sons have some great memories of many holidays,
vacations, 4th of July parades and being with friends of my brother and sister
who still live in Granville.
Ron and I have raised two sons, both married and now enjoying two
grandsons as well.
With Ron retiring at the end of May, we want to do some traveling out to Montana
to visit his sister, CA and south to stay with friends, etc. Great having
relatives/friends in the warmer states especially during the cold months in OH.
Looking forward to hearing more from the '61 archives. Congratulations on
taking such a big job to reunite our class. You have been quite impressive with
all data you've done at this point.

Dale,
I really enjoyed seeing and reading about a lot of our classmates. You have done
an excellent job. I am so happy to learn about and talk to some "old" friends!
Since 1961 I've had a very blessed life. I still have the same husband and
friend of 43 years. I married Larry Mitchell in March of 1962. We have one
daughter Melissa. She is married and lives in Hudson, OH with her husband Tom
and our granddaughter Paige who will be four in September. We are about to
become grandparents for a second time.
Larry worked in the telecommunications industry for many years. We have had many
great opportunities in our lives. We've lived in Massachusetts, Hudson, Ohio,
Little Rock, Arkansas, Toledo, Ohio, Hilliard, Ohio and finally back "home" to
Newark! Larry retired twice and just never did learn to rest and relax. He
decided he still wanted to do something part time so he got his real estate
license and now he only works 24/7. What a way to retire! I've worked for the
State of Ohio, a printing and marketing firm in Hudson, ALLTEL, Inc. in Little
Rock and now I work weekends for HER Real Living and 24/7 for Larry.
I plan to attend the next reunion. Sounds like a lot of fun. Hope to see
everyone!

Hey!
I signed up for the "Classmates" sites just for kicks &
giggles and noticed your site.
While there, I was looking at all the pictures and reading
the commentary. I have a question. We have pictures of my Mom & I coming out of
the Midland theater after graduation. According to your site we graduated in the
gym of the "new" high school. My memory is really bad these days so what we were
doing at the Midland? Please answer! It will drive me crazy!
I came to the 20th reunion and looking at all the other
reunion Pics I don't recognize anyone! Who are these "old" people? Time is not
kind! I can attest to that. I can't believe it's been 45 years! Geez!! The "new"
high school should be ready for demolition according to today's standards!
The list of people you have addresses for is not very long
for a class of 300 some people! I would get letters from Curt Abbot about the
reunions. What happened to him?
Anyhow I will add my name to the list - I noticed it wasn't
on there. Do you delete them if they don't come to the reunions?

Hi Dale,
It's Gene Henry McCoy. How are you?
I am already looking forward to the next reunion. I missed the last one
because my husband was ill. He passed away July 6th.
Hope all is well in your world.
I am so sorry. If I didn’t answer you, I certainly meant to! Couldn’t possibly
be old age, could it???
My mailing address is: 697 Euclid Avenue, Nerk, Ahia 43055
Phone # 344-1156 (it is unlisted, so don’t lose it)
I was just told this weekend that Tony’s is open. Guess it is now frequented by
young kids with tattoos and piercings. So if we have our mixer there, we may run
them off…..or they may run us off! I will be going there next weekend to
schmooze with the 1960 Newark Catholic reunion mixer. My sister-in-law was in
that class, so I’m going to visit with her and my brother. (They live in
Dallas). I will report to you on how it goes.
It’s OK to put my info on the website. I will try to get a short bio out to you
in the next couple of weeks. I am absolutely swamped with paperwork from my
husband’s death. If I don’t get these papers in order soon, I’ll probably go
crazy. I just can’t seem to get to them.
Was great to hear from you. And, oh yeah, I look exactly the same. Lololol
Gene
How to summarize 44 years of life…..not easy.
I worked for Park National Bank right out of high school. Married Bill McCoy in
1962. Had a daughter, Mindy, in 1963.
We didn’t waste any time. lol But that was it for children. Stayed home due to
health reasons until Mindy was in second grade and then went to work for B&L
Auto Supply in the office for 10 years. Left there and went to Ohio Power
Company for 13 years, working my way up to be the Division Manager’s Secretary.
My husband worked for Owens Corning Newark Plant for 43 years. When he retired,
I left OPCo and went to work part-time at United Way for 2 years, and then Label
Graphics for 2 years and then Licking Memorial Hospital for 2 years. I left LMH
in 2001 because my husband suffered renal failure and at the same time had to
have a triple bypass. He has been very ill for the last 4 years and I have been
his caretaker. He passed away on July 6th, 2005. So now I am trying to find a
direction to my life. I feel like a boat without an anchor. Anyway, I will
survive….I am a strong woman! My daughter graduated from nursing school this
past June (at age 42!) and is working in ER at Licking Memorial Hospital. She is
not married and has no children. I have lived in the Newark area the whole time.
We lived 10 miles northeast of Newark for over 35 years. We just moved into
Newark two years ago due to Bill’s health.
I have two dogs and four cats that we brought with us from the country. Couldn’t
leave them!
Guess that’s it in a small nutshell. Life was good and will be good again.

Hi Dale:
Glad to hear from you. Lynn had sent me the web site. She finally got into the
present world.
Since they don't get the Advocate, I would look on the internet to check the
obituaries etc, then call her with any info.
I have been married to Leo W Tawney, a southern Ohio farm boy since 8/18/1984.
Our address is 59 Hanby Ave., Westerville, OH 43081. Phone 614-899-0662. We have
no children together but have 6 between us. He has 4 daughters and I have one
daughter, Gretchen and one son Judson. We have 8 grandchildren between us, he
has 6 with one due 3/28/05 and I have 2-Gunnar will be 6 in March and Nicholas
who is 11.
Leo worked for GE for 32 years when the plant in Worthington, OH was sold and he
retired early to get better retirement benefits through GE. I got retired and
didn't want to be last January 2004 when I was laid off. I have been in the
mortgage lending profession since 1978.
With the economy being bad and my age, I have not gone back to work. Also the
last few years
I have taken care of my mom. From November until January 21, 2005 when she died
was really a bad time. Since I don't have any siblings, it is now me and my
kids. I don't like being the oldest generation!
I am so glad we all grew up when we did. It was the happiest time of my life.
This getting old is not for sissies. Hey, do you remember us being together in

Great to hear from you, keep in touch.

January 27, 2005
Dear Dale - Well, it has been about 4 years or so since I saw you at our class
reunion.
We just finally got hooked up to the internet, I know, we are a little behind
the times. We are sort of still in the dinosaur age!! I found your email
address, so I thought I would write to you and see what's going on?
How in the heck are you? We are still doing auctions, but things are a little
slow right now. You can check out our auction schedule on the web at
www.auctionFYI.com and click on Connelly Auctions. We do have a good estate
auction coming up Feb 18 & 19 at the Terhan Grotto.
This is hard for me to believe, but I will be getting my first SS check in
March! WOW!!! Still cannot believe that we are all getting up there. I sure
don't feel that old, but I will be 62 on January 30th.
I saw Judy Mercer on Tues. - her mother (Betty Hoover) just passed away. I did
see Susie Roan & Scott, Dick Dudgeon, Sandy Leek, & John Ankle at Tom Heisey's
brothers' memorial service last fall. I missed Tom Blackstone's fathers service
last week.
I guess as we do get older, the more funerals there will be! Well, so much for
that. The weather here is 10F and cold.
I went to the web site for NHS '61 and it is incredible. Wow - what a great job
you have done. I had so much fun that I just now passed it on to Judy (Mercer)
Tawney. Judy lives in Westerville.
Something I need to tell you about our graduation day in June of 1961, is that
it wasn't at White's Field. Sorry!! It was in the new high school gym, because
it was raining.
Yes, you can add me to the web site - of course - why not - this is just
great!!!!!
I will send you a bio to add, after I think about it for awhile. You know 45
years is a long time to put in perspective. And , of course, we probably go back
at least 50 years. Doesn't seem possible. The Jym Jams at the Y and the Canteen
at the Plymouth Congregational Church, every Fri and Sat nights. Boy, aren't we
lucky to have such great memories of our teen years - and such great times! The
kids today don't have what we had, or maybe they do in a different way-a real
different way.
I am in touch with Rosemary (Crowley) Baker, I'll have to give her your email
and the web site, too. I will be in touch with bio later. You know it is a good
life, despite it all.
Tell everyone you are in touch with, that I said Hello!
Take care. Love,
Lynn Miller Connelly

Well, I finally have time to answer your
e-mail. The information you have is correct.
What have I been doing for the last 35 years? The time has gone by so quickly
that I wonder where the years went. I moved to Brentwood, TN from Westerville,
Ohio in 1983 just after my divorce. I raised 3 children. Two are Lawyers and one
is State Agency Rep. for First American Title Ins. Co.
I opened a business in 1987 and sold it in 2002. I have been working for the
company who purchased it until this month. So I guess I am now retired. I am
still single since running a business takes more time than one could ever
imagine. I don't have any regrets though. It was a successful business and I
have my health and sense of humor, so now it is time for me. I feel like a kid

I have also spent the last 23 years training, breeding and showing Rottweilers.
I show in conformation, obedience, herding and have trained in agility ,carting
and tracking. I currently have 12 Rottweilers.
I just recently purchased a Paint/Walker horse and am really enjoying having a
horse again.
I am married to a terrific guy, Jim Worley. Jim helps with the dogs but his big
interest is older cars Mustangs and Mopars).
I retired nine years ago and am loving every minute!!!!

Hi,
Great to hear from you! The older we get, the more we enjoy old friends and
classmates.
Charley and I have been married for 43 years. Charley still is working, but I
sold my restaurant several years ago, and love retirement. We were high school
sweethearts, and he is still the love of my life. He has been a great husband,
father, and the world's best grandpa!
Please add my email address to the list, and we still live at 301 Heritage Road
in Easley, South Carolina. I was so surprised to see just how many classmates
have died! I hope to get to the next reunion.
Dawn Barnes Worley lives just a few minutes from us now, and I enjoy seeing her
now and again. She is busy raising and showing dogs, and I have grandchildren's
ball games to attend.
All the grandchildren live here. Amy, our youngest, and the one that just had a
new baby, is the activities director for the Presbyterian home here, and is
putting us on the list to get in. Only kidding!!! We are all Presbyterian, and
Amy is married to a college football coach, named Todd. Our middle son, who
played his college ball at Clemson, is named Todd, and he too is a college
football coach. He has no children, but at 40, he and his wife are thinking
about adoption, as they have been married for 14 years, and no babies. Just two
poodles. They just moved from Houston, Texas to Las Vegas so his wife could help
take care of her father. Her mother just died, and he is not well. mark lives
here too, and he is our oldest, at 42! The calendar must be wrong, as he can't
be that old. He graduated from Furman University and lives here with his wife of
18 years, and their three children. Josh, 13, Megan 16, and Drew, 17. He is the
one that is going off to college next year. He is really a smart kid, and will
be able to go to any school he chooses. The other two, Amy and our Todd
graduated from Clemson. Mark manages Saralee in Anderson, S.C. He is very
involved in Little League, and loves his family and all their sports. Charley is
the Imperial Die Casting Tooling manager, and has been there for the 28 years we
have lived in Easley. He graduated from NHS in 1958, and attended Heidelberg
College. That may be spelled wrong!
I guess you can see I have led a busy life. The years Todd played football for
Clemson, were some of the best years of our life. We never missed a game, and
had such fun with the team. I owned the restaurant then, and since Clemson is
just 15 miles from here, we fed lots of players and coaches through the years.
Danny Ford was the coach then, and he loved Todd. He was the entertainment for
many a football meeting. He loves to imitate the coaches, and lots of stars, and
is quite good at it. We miss him living so far away, but someday, he will
return. After her dad passes, they will come over this way.
When I turned 60 last year, 61, now, I really could not believe it!!!! I don't
feel that old, and really don't look it, or so I am told! hahahahha I have told
Amy, I would take care of baby Hannah when she goes back to work, and I have all
the equipment to do so, from the other kids, and just bought a new pack and go,
for Hannah. I have a new stroller, and even a car seat. I am all ready. the
other kids stayed in the back room of the restaurant until they could go to our
church day care, as my daughter-in-law worked at the restaurant. I am free now,
to enjoy the new baby. Amy got started late, as she will be 37 in September, but
I think of her as a college student yet.
Now, that is my life, and I hope this did not bore you to
death.
