Hello Gene,

Living in Canton, OH and enjoying retirement as all of us 61ers are supposed to be doing. Lived in Louisville which is 10 mi NE of Canton. Took us until 93 to figure living in Canton would sure be closer for our jobs so we relocated and love being near friends, two sons and two grandsons (11) and (6).

Quiet Quibble: Girls who chew gum.

July 23, 2011

Dale, sorry it has taken me so long to make it to our class reunion, but I will be at this one.

I will do my best to condense my last 50 years into a short story instead of the great american novel.

After a summer of fun and frolic at Buckeye Lake Park, I enlisted into the Air Force thinking I would see the world, but all I saw was Altus AFB, Oklahoma the armpit of the world. It is a small town about the size of Utica in the southwest corner of Oklahoma. I think the state bird was a buzzard and the state flower was tumbleweed. I did see lots of indians.

After getting out of the service, I went to work at Rockwell International at Port Columbus as a fireman/guard until I got laid off in Jan/71.I moved to Texas, got married to a Texas girl, and worked at Texas Instruments until 1972 when I went into the public safety field as a police officer/fighter/paramedic at Dallas Fort Worth Airport. I left there in 1982 and went to work at the Highland Village Police Dept in Denton County. I left there in 1993 when I discovered illegal activity that I was not part of, so I left there and went to work for Dept of Defense Police at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth,Tx. Six months later I was delivered a subpoena by a Texas Ranger to
testify regarding corruption within the department. As a result of their investigation half of the department was fired including the Police Chief, detective and patrol sergeant.

While in Texas, I used the GI Bill to attend college received two associate degrees in Police Science and Fire Technology. I also joined the Air Force Reserves and finally got to see the world.
I got to go europe three times and visited eight countries. They also made me go to Hawaii twice. It
was tough work but someone had to do it.

I have been married twice and have a daughter, a son, and a step-son. My son is a chef, my daughter
is a paramedic, and step-son is a nurse.

All of my siblings are here in Ohio and encouraged me to move back here. They even found me a job here in Chillicothe at the VA Hospital Police Force. I retired from there at the end of 2008.
When I went to the Social Security Office to retire the security guard there asked me if I would be interested in a job as Contract Guard for Homeland Security. I have been working for them since 2009.My home base is here in Chillicothe a half mile from my home but sometimes they send me to
fill in at Lancaster, Athens, Gallipolis ,Portsmouth, and Ironton. I may not work much longer because
father time is catching up with me and my body is rapidly falling apart.

Well that's my story, I hope it wasn't to boring. See you all soon.

Hey Dale, greetings from Georgia. Thought I would send a couple recent photos. Two are from Myrtle Beach, taken during Thanksgiving week when we had our kids and grandkids there. The other two are of the fire boat I am Captain of here on Lake Oconee. I had my grandson Reece out for a ride.

I hope all is well with you. Looking forward to the reunion in August. If you still need someone to round-up the Roosevelt junior high bunch for a photo op I would be glad to help.

Best regards,

April 4, 2010

Happy Easter!

I got to thinking I should send you some positive bio info for the about us page. So here goes...

Enlisted in the Air Force and left Newark for San Antonio, Texas on Valentines Day 1962, went from basic training to San Angelo, Texas for further training in the Air Force Security Service. Went to Darmstadt, Germany for 2 years and then to Taipei, Taiwan for 18 months. I was discharged in January of 1966.

Worked for 2 years at the Union (Pure) Oil refinery in Heath then went to Owens-Coring Science & Technology Center in Granville (31 years). I worked several different jobs there until I took early retirement at age 55 in February of 1999.

I married Barbara Brown, NHS class of 1963, in April 1997. Barbara is a registered nurse. We have two children, Scott (40) (Woodstock, GA) who is married to Anita and they have our grandson Reece (10). Heather (35) is married to Justin and they live in Granville with Katelyn (3) and Jack (2 weeks).

We sold our home in Newark in the Fall of 1998 and took a 6 month lease on an apartment on Goose Pond road thinking we would head South when I retired. In January of 1999 I took 3 weeks vacation and we headed to the East coast of Virginia and started cruising South. We ended up in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, close to Charleston, and fell in love with the place. Bought a home in 3 days and spent the rest of the 3 weeks on the beach. We moved in March 1999. For something to occupy my time I started a one man handyman business which I ran for 10 years until December of last year. We have a small boat and did a lot of fishing in the Intercoastal waterway near Isle of Palms, SC.

Last year we decided to check out the Lake Oconee, Georgia area for some new digs. In Mt. Pleasant we are about 6 hours from our son so we thought a move closer to him would allow us more time with our grandson. Definitely not moving back to the Snow Belt! We found a new Del Webb community just off I-20 about an hour out of Atlanta and 2 hours from our son. We listed our home in Mt. Pleasant January 7, 2010 and had a contract January 11th. Things moved a bit faster then we had anticipated. I had been scheduled for prostate surgery but put it off until after our move to Georgia.

The rest of the story I posted earlier.

Best wishes and health to everyone and I am looking forward to our 50th next year....see you there!

P.S. I hooked up with Jim Claggett just before our last reunion. He has a daughter living in the Charleston area and was down buying a condo. Small world isn't it??

March 30, 2010

Well Dale, were really getting to be a bunch of old farts....

I've had knee surgery, back surgery, skin cancer, bladder cancer and currently undergoing radiation treatment for prostate cancer...this all started back in 2005....But I'm doing fine and still in better shape than most 50 year olds...work out on weights every other day, except for the past month and aerobic exercise 5 days a week....can't wait to get back in training....paddled with the Dragon Boat Charleston cancer survivor team for 2 years until we moved a month ago....had a very busy summer racing with the team last year....attaching a photo from the Atlanta Dragon Boat Festival from last September....my team, I was Captain, took first in the cancer division and received the team spirit award.

Hope all is well with you and looking forward to seeing you next August.
Thanks for all you do with the website...great job!!

Quiet Quibble: Those jam sessions on Tuesday afternoon."

January 20, 2010

Hi Dale,

I am Sue (Overturf) Gibson, St. Clair. I discovered your website via one of my best friends, Linda (Bryan) Roberts. I would like to tell you what a great job you have done in creating this site. I have looked at the reunion pictures, and, I must say, I hardly recognize anyone. Unfortunately I have not attended any of the reunions and the 50th, for me would be the time to attend.

My bio: When I graduated, I worked for the Newark Telephone Co for 6 ½ years. Meet my late husband, Tom Gibson, who worked at the base, in 1966, got married that year in October. We have three children, Todd, who is a PA, physician assistant, Terry, who is a supervisor for the Limited Brands and Kristen who works for an eye clinic in town. All are married and I have three grandchildren, so far. I lived in Hanover for 34 years, until I remarried another wonderful man, Gene. We have been married for 5 ½ years, and I recently retired from The Longaberger Co., customer service area, after 11 years there. Retirement is great!

Please post my info and I would, also, like information on the 50th reunion coming up next year.

Thanks again for a great website.

Jim Waters

James R Waters

Quiet Quibble: To a cute kitten by the name of Kitty."

August 27, 2007

Good morning to all my classmates, this is my story and I am sticking to it.
By James R. Waters, Class of 1961.

In 1961 the Newark High School had the good since to set me free of their shackles of school life upon this old world. After a short time of freedom, I had the good fortune to get into a little trouble, but to the wisdom of a nice man on a bench in the city of Newark, Ohio I was given two choices as what to do with my life; spend a little time doing civic work or go to work for the Government for 3 years, which I having a sound mind choose to do the latter.

After having spent a 3 year tour with the Government (U.S. Army) I was turned loose again on the city of Newark, Ohio. Upon my return I married a lady from Newark and we raised a son. All this time while in civilian life I drove a truck around the country for the next twenty years. After a few tough years and having raised our Son we called it quits and went our separate ways.

I then moved to Columbus, Ohio where I met another lady and after a while remarried. Her name was Barbara A. Sigmon who was a widow and had three children whom we raised. I still drove a truck around the country until 2002 when I retired after 40 years. We have 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and enjoy them very much.

Now after retiring I had the good fortune to reunite with and old friend and classmate (Mr. Dale Wiley from the great state of Florida) He has taught me a lot about the computer world and how to use it, now saying all that I have been able to connect with a lot of my now older classmates and enjoy sending and receiving e-mails from them also.

With my retirement time now I have had time to enjoy my hobbies such as wood working and golf and just doing nothing at all if I chose to do so.
But with my free time I had the good chance to work with Mr. Wiley on our last reunion (45th) and it was great talking with our classmates and reuniting.

Now I enjoyed that so much that I have along with a couple other classmates (Gene Henry and Bill Snyder) organized a FUNction where we and several other classmates meet and talk about old times and enjoy each other's company.
We have grown from 3 people to about 17 now and still growing.
We get together about every 6 weeks, anyone else interested in joining the Group when in the Newark Area can get a hold of me, Bill, or Gene, and join in the fun.

Now that is my story and I am sticking to it.

August 6, 2007

Hi Dale,

Finally, as promised, am enclosing my copies of the “Reveille Review” that I have saved for far too long. The June, 1961 is a bit chopped up as there was an article I wanted to save the original. I did add copies to the paper.
(17 Reveille Reviews from November 21, 1958 to June 1961)

Also, have enclosed a picture of”57(if my math is correct) Newark Township 8th grade graduating class. Too funny! I tried to identify as many classmates as possible. I have also included a couple of menus from hang-outs. Charbert’s Drive In, 4352 E Broad St and Emil’s Steer Inn, 4484 East main Street both in Columbus. Just love the prices. A 1 lb T-bone steak, $3.10 or a Cheeseburger and Fries $.65! Why I have saved these I will never know, but thought you might get a kick out of seeing them. If you have a memorabilia table at the next reunion some might like to see the above items or add to web site if you desire.

I have been able to locate Gwen Owen. She is in California, but due to move to New Mexico in the near future. Hesitate to pass along more info as I feel it is up to her. Have informed her of the web site, and that you are trying to locate her also, I used to see Sue Callander at least once a year when we lived in Bay Village and thereafter. She was/is advisor to the bay rockets, the Bay Village high school dance team. Know that they moved to Westlake a few years ago, but am not sure she is still there. Her husband is Len Friedle and I know their son Brad was/is very active in soccer. He was on the USA team and I believe now has a soccer training camp or the like. I did check the phone book. There is no listing at this time.

Please post my email address on the NHS web site. It is:

As for the bio I haven’t taken the time to do anything yet. Have had a great life, though simple and fairly uneventful we have two girls, Trish and Kathi. Trish and family live in Rocky River. Kathi and family live in Westerville. We have four grandchildren. Kathi’s son Patrick will be attending Miami U this fall. Trish’s three are one, five and eight. Needless to say, they are all our pride and joy.

We moved from Bay Village to the country fifteen years ago. If you can believe it, I missed small town Newark. I always will be a barefoot county girl. My mom ended up in the Cleveland area and spent her last years with us. She was 95 when she passed a couple of years ago. It was great to have her close by as the girls were growing up; she was the only living grandparent they had.

Our latest endeavor has been getting involved in dog rescue. Have found that instead of fostering them until we find them a home, they end up with us. We can’t stand to part with them. Have two Aussie mixes, two Golden Retrievers and a St. Bernard. Can’t believe we are doing this at this point in our lives. They do keep us laughing and bring more joy than trouble to our lives.

Have rambled much too long with probably TMI.

Thanks again for the great web site. Keep in touch.

Quiet Quibble: People who call me "pi."

March 30, 2011

Just happened to be surfing your Class of '61 Website, and noticed that I haven't told you that we've moved.  A couple of years ago we moved from SW Lancaster, OH, to NW Lancaster.  Big hairy deal! A lousy five miles!  Well, anyway, the new address is:

1816 Fern Trail Dr

Lancaster, OH 43130

Telephone remains the same at 740-654-5747/740-243-8020 (cell) Email remains the same at tltower@earthlink.net

Doing even less now than when I emailed you last; not even contracting now.  Bev & I have been volunteering at Lake Logan and Hocking Hills State Parks to keep my hands from being too idle, but there's still a lot of hours to get through.  Tell the folks who are organizing the 50th Reunion this year that if they have little chores that need to be done, I have some spare time to help do them.

Jim Waters just emailed me that Vic Landrum has died; the old classmates are dropping off at a pretty regular rate now.  Vic and I first crossed paths at Central Jr. Hi in 1955, when I abandoned the rest of my Conrad Elementary peers to go to Central instead of Lincoln.  Vic and I didn't have much in common, but we always seemed to be in gym class together.

Best regards to all the classmates!  (I won't say "all the OLD classmates", because it's only too obvious.)

May 23 2007

Greetings from over the years, Dale! I stumbled over your Class of '61 website last night (while looking for Jane Shannon Shriner's email address, which I never did find), and I think it's great. You've done a wonderful job with it.

I didn't find myself on either the Missing Persons list, the known addresses list, or the Deceased Classmates list, so if you're interested, here are the vital statistics:

I recently retired from a career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, first as a forester, then as GIS/IT Specialist, and am currently doing a little consulting in GIS and other computer mapping. Short term plans include a move back to central Ohio within a year, to pursue an interest in family history.

Once again, congratulations on the website. I've been a webmaster, and certainly appreciate hard work and quality when I see it.

May 26, 2007 Follow-up

Boy, do I ever agree with you in, ". . .or maybe I could have seen you in recent years for all I know"! I looked at the 45th reunion picture and hardly recognized a soul.

Since you asked what I've been doing with myself for 45 years, here's a brief bio:

Graduated 1965 from Michigan State U, degree in forestry. No jobs in forestry at the time, but I'd been in Air Force ROTC, so in I went for six years. Minuteman II launch crew but never had to do it, thank goodness. Collected a MS from Univ North Dakota while I was babysitting missiles.

Left the AF in 1971 and dinked around a few years in northern Minnesota before finally getting a job in forestry with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and there I stayed for a career except for a ten-year break trying (unsuccessfully) to start a forest nursery business. Made the switch from forestry to computer geek over 20 years ago, and love it. Retired from the BIA in Boise, Idaho, last December, but am still a consulting geek, mostly in computer mapping.

First marriage lasted ten years and produced a daughter and a son; second marriage is at 30 years and counting, also with a son and a daughter. Three grandsons with the first son.

Immediate plans are to leave this Great Basin (read "desert wasteland") soon and move back to central Ohio; we're looking at the Lancaster area. Have to have a little something for the old forester, and the Wayne Natl Forest is there. We'll be in Newark this July, and hope to attend the semi-monthly mini-reunion with Jane Shannon Shriner and Company. Provided that I haven't shuffled off this mortal coil by 2011, count me in on the 50th. In fact, I'd be glad to help get ready for it.

Attached picture is three years old, but it's close. I'm back row, middle; my wife Bev is in the red blouse, and the rest are the family mentioned above, sans oldest daughter Lisa. At least now you won't pass me on the street. Or alternatively, you will see me coming and can cross over to the other side.

I always answer emails from all and sundry, and would very much like to hear from any of the old classmates.

Quiet Quibble: People"

August 08, 2006

Here's a little bio for posting:

Even though I haven't been back to Newark in over 40 years, life has been pretty good.

After NHS, I went to Kenyon. My family moved back to CT while I was at Kenyon.

After college I spent 3+ years in the Navy. Nothing too bad happened except I lost a few Kenyon friends in Vietnam.

Law school in Boston after that and then back to CT, where I've been ever since. I worked at two law firms and then moved over to what was one of the best clients of my firm. I've been general counsel of a private real estate company for almost 20 years now and am starting to think about retirement.

In 1968 I married one of the bridesmaids at my sister's (she graduated from Granville HS in 1970) wedding and she still puts up with me. We have one daughter who lives close enough that she comes over for dinner frequently. Cooking has become a great passions and I've actually worked (without pay of course) in the kitchens of a few fancy restaurants.

I'm really looking forward to seeing at lot of old friends.

BTW, the check is in the mail and tell Molly I'm coming to the reunion.

Quiet Quibble: Christina always likes one more trick"

August 03, 2006

Even though I never lived in Ohio after the age of 21, I have never forgotten my Newark friends and always look forward to seeing them. There are countless stories and many fond memories. My husband was in the Marines for 25 years and we lived in Florida, North Carolina, and California. Ten years ago we moved to Fountain Hills, Arizona.

We have one son, Ryan who is 28, and lives in Anaheim, Ca. He graduated from Berkley with an English degree, and plans to go back to school in the fall for his teaching certification.

I was a silversmith for many years, and now have a small gift shop in Fountain Hills. In the summer, I take people on tours of the Navajo, Hopi, and Zuni Reservations. I also have a non profit organization called The Southwest Cultures Club. www.swculturesclub.org It is a club dedicated to promote the understanding and appreciation of Native Americans and other cultures in the Southwest.

Looking forward to hearing from classmates.

Hi Dale,

I would like to establish contact with Buddy Carlson. Do you have either his e-mail address or telephone number?

Regarding our reunion I am not yet sure whether I will attend. Although I retired 10 years ago at age 54, my personal time is still demand.

We can converse later. Thank you for your help regarding Buddy.

July 29, 2006

Hi Dale,

I have been putting several new persons into my computer address book. Your name and address was the last one. I want to make sure it works. Please confirm.

For your information, I am corresponding with Buddy Carlson and finally met-up with him in Springfield, OH today at a martial arts competition. Buddy was and remains a good friend. He is a good person. He did put some pressure on me to attend the reunion. I did not commit to attend because of logistical problems. I told him we can talk later.

I purposely have not sent you a bio; however, life has been well. I prefer to not discuss employment because much of it was highly classified. I may attend the reunion. That probability is increasing, especially after seeing Buddy today.

July 30, 2006

Hi Dale,

I wrote to Buddy last night mentioning I shall at least attend Friday at Tony's. Regarding Saturday night, my impression has been that is for spouses also. My wife does not want to attend and stifle me. Buddy has yet to convince me to attend both Friday and Saturday. Doing so remains unresolved.

So far, Tony's on Friday seems fine. Susan still has friends in Newark. She does not want to go to Tony's, again the stifle thing, but she will drop me off there and pick me up later. She agreed to doing so after I said I did not want to attend the session at Tony's, have some fun, drink a few beers, and then drive to wherever I would stay.

You may send copies of my messages to anyone, especially Buddy, my good, old friend. He put some subtle pressure on me at the Karate tournament. Although it was subtle I sensed he knew it was sufficient. He was right.

I learned respect via Karate and if my first Sensi says you need to attend the reunion I shall do so.

(Cc: of a note to Judy Mercer)

Hi Judy,

I do not remember you being at our house on 29th Street for burgers. The memory has become selective.

I do very well remember your note on the playground to me at Cherry Valley. I do not remember whether it was part way through the 1st grade or in the 2nd grade. I only remember starting school at Central and then we moved to 29th St. I did not know you then; however, you walked up to me and handed me your small note, a couple inches square. It said: "I love you. Do you love me?" There were two spaces wherein I could check yes or no. I remember thinking what do I do with this? I finally thought, well, ok, why not. It was only 1st or 2nd grade. I checked yes and gave it back to you. We were good friends for a while, but I do not remember what happened to us.

Yes, we share the same birthday. It must mean we would not have been compatible!

My father passed away when I was 15 and still living on 29th Street. Mother re-married. Mother passed away several years ago, and my step-father passed away about a month ago. My brother, Bruce, still lives in Newark on Alford Drive.

Life has been well. Academically, undergraduate and graduate school was paid for me after serving in the Marine Corps and scholarships. Good employment resulted, and I was able to retire at age 54.

I married Susan Kay Taylor from Hebron. We have two children and two grandchildren after 38 years of marriage.

I may attend this reunion. I hope to see you at our 50th. Never forget, I checked the box indicating: "I love you."

First, thanks from all of us for bringing the NHS class of 61 back together. It really is fun to read what old friends have been doing. I'll bet many of our teachers would be amazed at how well we turned out.

Here is the Cliff Notes version of life since NHS. My wife Sandy and I will be married 35-years this December. We have three children and two grandchildren and are blessed that they all live nearby.

While I was getting my degree at Ohio State and after graduation I worked as a DJ at WCOL and WTVN radio and then as Program Director of WKRC in Cincinnati. After a few years in public relations, I started a production company in and have been a video producer/director for nearly 30 years. Two of our children majored in video production at OU and now work with me. Our oldest daughter is a youth minister….Lord knows the rest of us need all the help we can get! Sandy has been a pre-school teacher for over 20 years and has a music enrichment program. Everyday is still great fun and I've never even considered retiring.

We live in Northwest Columbus and are fortunate enough to cross paths with some of our Newark classmates from time to time. Scott and Susan (Roan) Marzano are great friends that we try to get together with as often as possible.

Making it to the reunion this time isn't going to work out, but hopefully in 2011. Again, Dale, thanks for a job very well done.

Thanks for the comments on our web site, but the countless hours of work you have invested in the class site is really impressive. You have the address nearly right: 1320 Marlyn Drive, Columbus 43220. Office 614-442-3399, home 614-451-8896. I think you may have had Marlyr.

This is just an update for you, but when I get a moment I'll try to send you a few lines for your bio section.

We have some out-of-state production scheduled in August, but we'll do everything possible to make it back to Newark. If that happens we can talk about a short video.

June 3, 2006

Hi, This is Bonnie Buckwalter/Conaway/Kelley and Link just forwarded your email to him or his to you, or whatever the heck you guys are doing. Anyway, I got your letter and will not be attending, as I have no family back in Newark at this time, and my hubby's family is all here in W VA and VA. (Actually the real reason I won't be attending, is that I looked at the past Pics of reunions, and I have no clue who you OLD PEOPLE are!!!!
Certainly not my classmates! )

So, if you want any updates from me, Link and I had one son, David, who is now much too old to claim and had adopted another son, Scott, just prior to that and were married about 9 yrs. Then in 1977 I married my present darlin', Pete, who is a West-by God-Virginia boy. A year after we married we got fulltime custody of his three sons, so that made five little boys. They have produced 6 grandchildren, with another one on the way.

I went to Ohio State/NE Missouri State and got a secondary teaching degree; taught two years and then went into Personnel Mgt., directed a couple of non-profits, but mostly was a stay-at-home mom to all those boys.

Now I'm into helping my 88 yr. old mom, whom I moved here a few years ago, working in my yard, church work, etc. Pete and I are learning western line-dancing. Hope you won't hold that against us!

Hope that brings you up to speed; you had the address right. Tell McClenahan, an old flame, that I should come back just to see him in that silly outfit! I had heard that he and Joanie had married a couple of years ago. They look like they're havin' fun.

Don't think we ever really knew one another; I was into band and otherwise was a quiet, shy dorky kind of person. (Wonder whatever happened to her?) Life is weird, but I'm not ready for the alternative!

You have a great time; thanks for finding me! Bonnie

Hi Dale and "Nerkites"

We are truly blessed to have your expertise and unselfish effort to host this website, but are those glasses the same ones from high school with a tint? lol

Bio from HS seems like a novel= undergrad OSU, medical school Missouri, Internship-Residency-GI Fellowship=Columbus, practiced 3 yrs in Albuquerque NM, 3 years in Tucson AZ, 3 years in Landstuhl West Germany and 23 yrs in Columbus doing "Butts & Guts"= gastroenterology! (Never found that perfect A_ _ hole, but met a few Drs. that were close!)

I have 2 still single sons from my 1st wife and HS sweetheart classmate, Bonnie Buckwalter-and we are still friends. Two gorgeous step daughters with 5 grandchildren from the love of my life I met in the Netherlands, but died 3 yrs ago. I quite my practice to be a caregiver and after she died went on to seek "New Cheese" by starting a tree nursery specializing in Buckeye trees in Powell, Ohio, writing 2 novels- one on espionage, the other a love story- both not published ( Mr. Kingery was right, science not English was my forte!)

I bought a second investment house on Lake Norman, off I77 north of Charlotte, NC last year and got my NC Mortgage brokers license year and have invested and started with my step daughter and her husband a Real Estate and Mortgage Brokerage group, which allows me to take my 2003 Supercharged F150 Harley to all the NASCAR events at Lowes Motor Speedway near by.
Life is good and when I find and meet that next love of my life, it will be great.

Love to here from you.

Hi Dale,

You have the correct email address and I did receive the NHS Class of 61 info. The website is great -- I'm still reading it, but wanted to let you know my address is 6481 Meadowbrook Circle, Worthington, OH 43085. My phone # is 614-846-1039.

I graduated from Ohio State University in 1965 and worked in public accounting for about 10 years. I've been a self-employed CPA since 1978 and still work full time.

Von (currently an adjunct professor at Otterbein College) and I have been married since 1967. Von grew up in the Lima, OH area so he did not go to NHS.

We have a son, Brad (whose brief marriage was dissolved), and daughter, Brooke (who is getting married this summer), so there are no grandchildren yet. We have lived in Worthington for 35 years.

April 19, 2006

Hi Dale,

I had replied to your web site when Pat originally sent me the web address. I guess it didn't go through. It is a fantastic site by the way.

Have been married for 42 years to the same wonderful guy. Have two children a son and daughter. Now have 4 grandchildren.

I work at the Journal Press, Inc., came to work here 13 years ago, after we moved from Gaithersburg, Md.
Both of us got buy outs from our former employers. Started new careers and yes there are good jobs to be found after 50.

I sell advertising, and write feature articles for 2 magazines, and occasionally for the newspaper. There are always deadlines to be
met and it has a lot of pressure, but most of the time I love it. No hurry to stop working, too much stuff I want to buy and things to do yet.

I keep in touch with Pat (Pat Sullivan) all the time, we just pick up by e-mail where we left off last time, doesn't matter how long it has been.

I don't think I will make this one (45th Reunion) but will make one soon.

Thanks for the follow up and keep up the great web site.

April 14, 2006

Hello dale what a great web site, thanks for all your hard work getting this site together. It is so great.

I have been married 3 times that sounds bad but that is the way it is. The first one for 3 years-- no children.

The next for 14 years, and I have three daughters of which are a set of twins Leslie and Lori and Amy my youngest. I also helped raise three other children who call me mom to this day. I don't see them very often though now but their children still call me "grandma" ha.

I have been married to my present husband for 26 years in June and we have no children. However he has 2 sons who also call me mom. All together that is 8 children that have called me mom and lived in my home.

I worked for Ohio power for a couple of years then Westinghouse for a couple of years, then I worked for the government at the Newark Air Force station for 25 years and my husband also worked at the Newark air force station for 30 years. In 1996 the base was privatized and we both went to work for Boeing doing roughly what we did for the base.

Then in 1999 I had a liver transplant because hepatitis destroyed my old liver. I contracted "hep c" when I received some "dirty" blood some years before. And in 2000 I went on long term disability from Boeing. My husband continues to work for them. I am doing pretty good and very thankful to be alive. And thankful that a family donated their loved ones, organs so I could go on living as well as the others who received the rest of his organs.

My husband Bernie Brown and I between us have 11 grandkids I have 6 and two of which are identical twins and my husband has 5. All total there are 6 girls and 5 boys. The other kids I raised have 9 children and they call me grandma as well. Wow it does get costly at Christmas time.

Thanks dale, for putting this site together. It is the greatest.
You can print all of this if you want.

Hi Dale. What a great site. It's been great seeing where everyone's living and what they are doing. You have done a great job in finding a way for all of us to get back in touch. THANK YOU

After graduation I went to work at Park National Bank and worked until birth of first child.
After raising two children and taking a 17 year maternity leave I went back to work until 2003.

My husband Tom (Utica grad '61) retired from Communicolor in 2002 and is enjoying playing farmer and raising cattle on family farm. Our son and his wife built a house on the farm and grandkids are 5th generation to live on farm. I guess we will be here for awhile. Our daughter is a coach and teacher at Utica and is living on her husband's family farm.

I still live in the same place I did 40 years ago. We have raised a son and daughter who are married and live nearby. We are lucky to have our 4 granddaughters and 1 grandson close by.

Tom and I are both retired and really enjoy the good life. I guess it's the reason we work all those years. I recommend retirement to all.

Looking forward to hearing some blasts from the past. Stay in touch.

September 08, 2005

Hello Dale,

When looking up my pic, you probably still didn't recognize the "Hughes" girl...

Just had a mini-reunion at Cherry Valley Lodge, Nerk, with Lynn Miller Connelly, Sally Slay Dailey, Sally Handel Penrose, Debbie Campbell Feichter, Carol Campbell Vermilion, Betty Retherford Barclay and Joan S.
Leave it to Joan to get info to you, otherwise, I might not have written so soon.

In 1962, I was hired by Ohio Power with the knowledge they would be moving to Canton, OH a year later which was a move I was looking forward to after making friends with girls from the Canton area who had been brought to Newark for training.
Met Ron D. and stayed in this area and enjoying the years here.

My family moved to Granville the year we got married so that was a shock after the Nerk/Granville relationship, ha! Did spend time at Hudson Lake and the Aladdin before my family located to the area. Have spent many years visiting my family in Granville, and my sons have some great memories of many holidays, vacations, 4th of July parades and being with friends of my brother and sister who still live in Granville.

Ron and I have raised two sons, both married and now enjoying two grandsons as well.
With Ron retiring at the end of May, we want to do some traveling out to Montana to visit his sister, CA and south to stay with friends, etc. Great having relatives/friends in the warmer states especially during the cold months in OH.

Looking forward to hearing more from the '61 archives. Congratulations on taking such a big job to reunite our class. You have been quite impressive with all data you've done at this point.

I really enjoyed seeing and reading about a lot of our classmates. You have done an excellent job. I am so happy to learn about and talk to some "old" friends!

Since 1961 I've had a very blessed life. I still have the same husband and friend of 43 years. I married Larry Mitchell in March of 1962. We have one daughter Melissa. She is married and lives in Hudson, OH with her husband Tom and our granddaughter Paige who will be four in September. We are about to become grandparents for a second time.

Larry worked in the telecommunications industry for many years. We have had many great opportunities in our lives. We've lived in Massachusetts, Hudson, Ohio, Little Rock, Arkansas, Toledo, Ohio, Hilliard, Ohio and finally back "home" to Newark! Larry retired twice and just never did learn to rest and relax. He decided he still wanted to do something part time so he got his real estate license and now he only works 24/7. What a way to retire! I've worked for the State of Ohio, a printing and marketing firm in Hudson, ALLTEL, Inc. in Little Rock and now I work weekends for HER Real Living and 24/7 for Larry.

I plan to attend the next reunion. Sounds like a lot of fun. Hope to see everyone!

August 08, 2005

I signed up for the "Classmates" sites just for kicks & giggles and noticed your site.

While there, I was looking at all the pictures and reading the commentary. I have a question. We have pictures of my Mom & I coming out of the Midland theater after graduation. According to your site we graduated in the gym of the "new" high school. My memory is really bad these days so what we were doing at the Midland? Please answer! It will drive me crazy!

I came to the 20th reunion and looking at all the other reunion Pics I don't recognize anyone! Who are these "old" people? Time is not kind! I can attest to that. I can't believe it's been 45 years! Geez!! The "new" high school should be ready for demolition according to today's standards!

The list of people you have addresses for is not very long for a class of 300 some people! I would get letters from Curt Abbot about the reunions. What happened to him?

Anyhow I will add my name to the list - I noticed it wasn't on there. Do you delete them if they don't come to the reunions?

Ain't computers grand!!

Hi Dale,

It's Gene Henry McCoy. How are you?

I am already looking forward to the next reunion. I missed the last one because my husband was ill. He passed away July 6th.
Hope all is well in your world.

I am so sorry. If I didn’t answer you, I certainly meant to! Couldn’t possibly be old age, could it???

My mailing address is: 697 Euclid Avenue, Nerk, Ahia 43055

Phone # 344-1156 (it is unlisted, so don’t lose it)

I was just told this weekend that Tony’s is open. Guess it is now frequented by young kids with tattoos and piercings. So if we have our mixer there, we may run them off…..or they may run us off! I will be going there next weekend to schmooze with the 1960 Newark Catholic reunion mixer. My sister-in-law was in that class, so I’m going to visit with her and my brother. (They live in Dallas). I will report to you on how it goes.

It’s OK to put my info on the website. I will try to get a short bio out to you in the next couple of weeks. I am absolutely swamped with paperwork from my husband’s death. If I don’t get these papers in order soon, I’ll probably go crazy. I just can’t seem to get to them.

Was great to hear from you. And, oh yeah, I look exactly the same. Lololol

How to summarize 44 years of life…..not easy.

I worked for Park National Bank right out of high school. Married Bill McCoy in 1962. Had a daughter, Mindy, in 1963.

We didn’t waste any time. lol But that was it for children. Stayed home due to health reasons until Mindy was in second grade and then went to work for B&L Auto Supply in the office for 10 years. Left there and went to Ohio Power Company for 13 years, working my way up to be the Division Manager’s Secretary. My husband worked for Owens Corning Newark Plant for 43 years. When he retired, I left OPCo and went to work part-time at United Way for 2 years, and then Label Graphics for 2 years and then Licking Memorial Hospital for 2 years. I left LMH in 2001 because my husband suffered renal failure and at the same time had to have a triple bypass. He has been very ill for the last 4 years and I have been his caretaker. He passed away on July 6th, 2005. So now I am trying to find a direction to my life. I feel like a boat without an anchor. Anyway, I will survive….I am a strong woman! My daughter graduated from nursing school this past June (at age 42!) and is working in ER at Licking Memorial Hospital. She is not married and has no children. I have lived in the Newark area the whole time. We lived 10 miles northeast of Newark for over 35 years. We just moved into Newark two years ago due to Bill’s health.

I have two dogs and four cats that we brought with us from the country. Couldn’t leave them!

Guess that’s it in a small nutshell. Life was good and will be good again.

Hey Dale!

Guess that I was destined to end up with a Dale. My 1st notice of boys was in 6th grade when Dale Roberts moved from Granville to Cherry Valley. Dale Richard Varner in Jr. High, Dale Tabler in High School as well as walking home laughing all the way with a certain Dale Wiley.

I met and married Dale Baker in '67 and can only say that it was the best decision of my life.

Our address is 421 Herwen Drive Shippensburg, PA 17257. Phone is (717)530-5132.

I retired 2 years ago after teaching Special needs young adults (16 to 21) for 18 years. I had taught regular first grade in Chicago and Columbus previously.

I am now substituting fairly often and when I am not traveling.

We spend after Christmas in Key West or Sanibel Island. Where in Florida do you live?

I will check out the Web site and appreciate hearing from you with all of your fine info.

Take care!

Hi Dale:

Glad to hear from you. Lynn had sent me the web site. She finally got into the present world.

Since they don't get the Advocate, I would look on the internet to check the obituaries etc, then call her with any info.

I have been married to Leo W Tawney, a southern Ohio farm boy since 8/18/1984. Our address is 59 Hanby Ave., Westerville, OH 43081. Phone 614-899-0662. We have no children together but have 6 between us. He has 4 daughters and I have one daughter, Gretchen and one son Judson. We have 8 grandchildren between us, he has 6 with one due 3/28/05 and I have 2-Gunnar will be 6 in March and Nicholas who is 11.

Leo worked for GE for 32 years when the plant in Worthington, OH was sold and he retired early to get better retirement benefits through GE. I got retired and didn't want to be last January 2004 when I was laid off. I have been in the mortgage lending profession since 1978.

With the economy being bad and my age, I have not gone back to work. Also the last few years

I have taken care of my mom. From November until January 21, 2005 when she died was really a bad time. Since I don't have any siblings, it is now me and my kids. I don't like being the oldest generation!

I am so glad we all grew up when we did. It was the happiest time of my life. This getting old is not for sissies. Hey, do you remember us being together in Miller's basement at one of her famous parties.

Great to hear from you, keep in touch.

January 27, 2005

Dear Dale - Well, it has been about 4 years or so since I saw you at our class reunion.

We just finally got hooked up to the internet, I know, we are a little behind the times. We are sort of still in the dinosaur age!! I found your email address, so I thought I would write to you and see what's going on?

How in the heck are you? We are still doing auctions, but things are a little slow right now. You can check out our auction schedule on the web at www.auctionFYI.com and click on Connelly Auctions. We do have a good estate auction coming up Feb 18 & 19 at the Terhan Grotto.

This is hard for me to believe, but I will be getting my first SS check in March! WOW!!! Still cannot believe that we are all getting up there. I sure don't feel that old, but I will be 62 on January 30th.

I saw Judy Mercer on Tues. - her mother (Betty Hoover) just passed away. I did see Susie Roan & Scott, Dick Dudgeon, Sandy Leek, & John Ankle at Tom Heisey's brothers' memorial service last fall. I missed Tom Blackstone's fathers service last week.

I guess as we do get older, the more funerals there will be! Well, so much for that. The weather here is 10F and cold.

I went to the web site for NHS '61 and it is incredible. Wow - what a great job you have done. I had so much fun that I just now passed it on to Judy (Mercer) Tawney. Judy lives in Westerville.

Something I need to tell you about our graduation day in June of 1961, is that it wasn't at White's Field. Sorry!! It was in the new high school gym, because it was raining.

Yes, you can add me to the web site - of course - why not - this is just great!!!!!

I will send you a bio to add, after I think about it for awhile. You know 45 years is a long time to put in perspective. And , of course, we probably go back at least 50 years. Doesn't seem possible. The Jym Jams at the Y and the Canteen at the Plymouth Congregational Church, every Fri and Sat nights. Boy, aren't we lucky to have such great memories of our teen years - and such great times! The kids today don't have what we had, or maybe they do in a different way-a real different way.

I am in touch with Rosemary (Crowley) Baker, I'll have to give her your email and the web site, too. I will be in touch with bio later. You know it is a good life, despite it all.

Tell everyone you are in touch with, that I said Hello!

Take care. Love,

Well, I finally have time to answer your e-mail. The information you have is correct.

What have I been doing for the last 35 years? The time has gone by so quickly that I wonder where the years went. I moved to Brentwood, TN from Westerville, Ohio in 1983 just after my divorce. I raised 3 children. Two are Lawyers and one is State Agency Rep. for First American Title Ins. Co.

I opened a business in 1987 and sold it in 2002. I have been working for the company who purchased it until this month. So I guess I am now retired. I am still single since running a business takes more time than one could ever imagine. I don't have any regrets though. It was a successful business and I have my health and sense of humor, so now it is time for me. I feel like a kid again. No responsibilities. Hope to see you in 2006 at the reunion.

Great to hear from you! The older we get, the more we enjoy old friends and classmates.

Charley and I have been married for 43 years. Charley still is working, but I sold my restaurant several years ago, and love retirement. We were high school sweethearts, and he is still the love of my life. He has been a great husband, father, and the world's best grandpa!

Please add my email address to the list, and we still live at 301 Heritage Road in Easley, South Carolina. I was so surprised to see just how many classmates have died! I hope to get to the next reunion.

Dawn Barnes Worley lives just a few minutes from us now, and I enjoy seeing her now and again. She is busy raising and showing dogs, and I have grandchildren's ball games to attend.

All the grandchildren live here. Amy, our youngest, and the one that just had a new baby, is the activities director for the Presbyterian home here, and is putting us on the list to get in. Only kidding!!! We are all Presbyterian, and Amy is married to a college football coach, named Todd. Our middle son, who played his college ball at Clemson, is named Todd, and he too is a college football coach. He has no children, but at 40, he and his wife are thinking about adoption, as they have been married for 14 years, and no babies. Just two poodles. They just moved from Houston, Texas to Las Vegas so his wife could help take care of her father. Her mother just died, and he is not well. mark lives here too, and he is our oldest, at 42! The calendar must be wrong, as he can't be that old. He graduated from Furman University and lives here with his wife of 18 years, and their three children. Josh, 13, Megan 16, and Drew, 17. He is the one that is going off to college next year. He is really a smart kid, and will be able to go to any school he chooses. The other two, Amy and our Todd graduated from Clemson. Mark manages Saralee in Anderson, S.C. He is very involved in Little League, and loves his family and all their sports. Charley is the Imperial Die Casting Tooling manager, and has been there for the 28 years we have lived in Easley. He graduated from NHS in 1958, and attended Heidelberg College. That may be spelled wrong!

I guess you can see I have led a busy life. The years Todd played football for Clemson, were some of the best years of our life. We never missed a game, and had such fun with the team. I owned the restaurant then, and since Clemson is just 15 miles from here, we fed lots of players and coaches through the years. Danny Ford was the coach then, and he loved Todd. He was the entertainment for many a football meeting. He loves to imitate the coaches, and lots of stars, and is quite good at it. We miss him living so far away, but someday, he will return. After her dad passes, they will come over this way.

When I turned 60 last year, 61, now, I really could not believe it!!!! I don't feel that old, and really don't look it, or so I am told! hahahahha I have told Amy, I would take care of baby Hannah when she goes back to work, and I have all the equipment to do so, from the other kids, and just bought a new pack and go, for Hannah. I have a new stroller, and even a car seat. I am all ready. the other kids stayed in the back room of the restaurant until they could go to our church day care, as my daughter-in-law worked at the restaurant. I am free now, to enjoy the new baby. Amy got started late, as she will be 37 in September, but I think of her as a college student yet.

Now, that is my life, and I hope this did not bore you to death.

Hey Dale,

Saw Everett Hollingshead last night and he told me about your website. Checked it out and have had a few good laughs from the pictures. Especially liked the one of you and the rest taken at Central. I, however, seem to be missing in action.

I'm formerly Sandy Leek (remember one of your short dancing partners??) and still live in Newark. I'm married to Roger Sturman and am executive assistant to the president of the Newark Campus of OSU (I get great football tickets!!). Have been here 35 years. Roger is retired from Owens-Corning and loving it, especially when I have to get up every morning to go to work.

We have a daughter, Trisha, who lives in Phoenix; a son, Todd, who lives in Greenville, South Carolina; and a daughter, Courtney, who lives in Newark. Todd has two daughters (10 and 11) and Courtney has one daughter (13).

We missed a few reunions, but are looking forward (ugh) to the next one in 2006. I'll keep checking the website. Keep up the good work.

I see some of our old classmates that still live in Newark. Pat Harris just recently lost her husband to cancer. I see Linda Shoemaker Jeffries once in a while. Her husband, Pat, just recently started a job here at the campus.

Quiet Quibble:
BG will always mean more to me than Bowling Green”

August 31, 2003

Hey Dale, is that web page cool or what; you are fantastic. I’m really sorry we lost touch a few years ago but I was going through a rough time and thought I was too busy. Little did I know that the “good ole days” really were the “good ole days”. From the pictures it seems like the people we all left behind got better looking as they matured; those are some great looking pictures folks!! I am only sorry that I always seemed too busy to attend; I hope I will have the chance to redeem myself soon – 2006 – right? See you all there!!!!

After leaving NHS, I went to Bowling Green for four and a half years plus a summer – don’t ask why that long – it’s not a pretty story. After BGSU, I spent the next 35 years with the Cleveland Public Schools – the first 29 as a Physical Education teacher and the last six as an instructor with the Cleveland board and the Cleveland Education Fund in their technology departments. It was very interesting teaching teachers.

After being a victim of downsizing in January of 2001, I spent a lot of time feeling sorry for myself until I figured out everything happens for a reason. My reason was to find a place where there is almost constant sunshine, rain is the worst weather to complain about and there is NO SNOW.

I landed in Palm Harbor, Florida and have stayed busy with chores – got drafted for the homeowners association and do a little consulting work teaching basic and intermediate technology.

An idea for the theme for the next reunion:

April 9, 2003

Dale, I just came upon your website. It is fantastic! I really enjoyed seeing names I haven't seen in over 40 years. I have lived in New Jersey since 1970. After graduating I went to Bowling Green. After graduation from there, I lived in Coral Gables, Florida and upstate NY before coming here. I haven't had much contact with my childhood friends until recently. Emily Hughes and Debi Campbell came to Hudson, Ohio to see me when my dad was there. Last summer I was in Columbus so I made my first trip to Newark in many years and saw Sally Handle and Betty Rutherford. Through classmates I found Barb Easton, who was my maid of honor, so that was a special connection.

I live outside NYC. I have 2 sons, both work in NY. Randy works 2 blocks from the World Trade Center so he was involved in everything you saw on TV. Both Randy and Troy live each day looking around them as they try to get to work. My husband died 21 years ago. In fact, we were at the 15 reunion. He died 6 months later. I never remarried. I retired after teaching for 34 years. I have recently been trained in several holistic methods of healing. I am not the kind of person who can stop learning. I guess that is why I was a teacher.

Please add me to your website. I would love to hear from my old friends.

Quiet Quibble: Why did they leave mine out of the book?"

January 26, 2002

After Graduation in 1961, I Charles D. Smith joined the USAF, went into the Air Force under the buddy plan with Ned (Charles) Ratliff, It was a great plan if you know what I mean?
Ned went to Japan and I went to California. The buddy plan means you stay together. See what I mean. I enjoyed the Air Force and after the first couple of years I put eighty thousand miles on my car just going up and down the coast of California. I got in a little trouble and was busted and put in the supply squadron. It was a car wreck but another Airman was hurt in the car and that didn't set so good with the base general.

After getting out of the Air Force, I went back to Ohio, and worked for Rockwell, thanks to my Mother, who got me the job. Being young and crazy I chased girls and became a booking agent for a rock band and a couple of go go girls, life in the fast lane! I was getting a lot of heat from the police in Newark, so I moved to Columbus.

I got a job as an interior painter, it was a good paying job, but not my cup of tea. So I went back to California, and then to Las Vegas where I became a Dice Dealer.

Las Vegas was a wild west town back in the 60's and so I ran with the cowboys. Riding the range in more than one way. I had a very good job, but I lived for the moment and not the future, as was everyone else I ran with.

For me, just being here is a success story. I am now in management, working at the Excalibur Hotel and I enjoy my job, so I have been a vagabond, a nice guy.
This is a quick overview of Charles D. Smith.

We did oldies (of course), Southern Rock, middle of the road rock & roll and a little bit of country.

I enjoyed seeing you at the reunion! You haven't changed a bit!! That's the first reunion I've been to. Better late than never I guess.
Keep on rocking Nick Copas!!

Hi Dale, Great hearing from you. I checked out some of the web sites you sent. Couldn't get into deceased. Wanted to see about Anita Lewis.

When I clicked on the url it clicked off and I got the fatal error kiss of death. I'm having trouble with my computer. Sometimes it works sometimes not.
I guess you have my email info. It was good seeing you, you never change. Nick and Lowell did such a good job with the reunion. It was great seeing everyone again. Take care, stay safe, Sandy

September 1, 2001

I am married, to the former Dru Petersen of the Pontiac, Michigan Petersen's, no children and have been living in the Tampa Bay Florida area since 1973. I am a computer consultant and web site designer. My company, Computer Help, primarily teaches our clients how to use their software and hardware. In addition we have designed some award winning web sites! Prior to this, most of my professional life in Florida was as a General Contractor in the home building business.

It was great to see all of you at the last reunion.
Does it seem like each year there is a little more of us to see?
Next time though, lets try and stay up past 10:30 pm!
And would somebody please dance? I didn't even get to dance with Sharon D this time around :(
Sharon, you're not mad at me are you?
The good news, I did get to dance once with Bev M :))))))))

Sandra Bowman

I LOVE  the website!!!!! So glad you thought to send it to me, I am so grateful. so weird, Sandy Glasgow and Nancy Maddux were my best friends in school. I knew about Sandy, but hearing about Nancy threw me. I also worked with Jim Hughes at Owens Corning until I retired in 92. I really haven't seen any of my old classmates but Nancy Willey recently. I quit halfway thru my senior year, but went and got my GED. ANOTHER stupid mistake on my part hahaha. I also worked with Curt Abbott too for a while.

Anyway, I recently moved to Venice, FL to take care of my aunt and uncle. I do miss my kids tho. I have 5 kids and 12 grandkids. They are my life. I was divorced after 30 years of marriage and now I am beginning to live a little. hahaha Sure hope you and yours are fine, course you are. You can publish my name if you'd like.
Barbara Bowman is alive and well, still married to Bob Smith in Lancaster, Ohio, and Sandy French still lives in Newark. Thanks so much for this return to my youth.

Joan Simpson

Joan Ellen Simpson
Quiet Quibble: Those gray hairs I always wear in plays!"

John and I were sorry to miss the 40th... we didn't hear about it in time to make our plans. We travel a lot, and generally plan trips for 6 months at a time! John and I (Joan Simpson) were married in September, 1997, after hooking up at the 35th reunion! I joined John in Las Vegas where we live with our 6 cats. John's son, by ex-wife Jody, lives in Colorado, and is 36 years old. My sons Daniel and Peter, by my late husband Brooke Baker (NHS '57), both live in Raleigh, NC. Daniel is a pastor of the Community Life Church, married to Anne, and father of Caroline who will be 3 in December and William Joseph who is 15 months. Peter is an editor for the public TV station. He is divorced and childless, but busy pursuing the lovely Ellen! John and I just got back from Raleigh where we had the wonderful pleasure of going out to dinner with Rebecca (Bloss) Kaufman and hubby Seth, and also Shannon Van Wey and his wife Claudia. After playing bridge constantly with Shannon, Becky, and Bob Boyce for months on end in high school, I had not seen Shannon nor Becky since we graduated. So we had a lot of years to catch up on!
I have lived in the Newark area several times since graduating from college and visit there often. My aunt still lives there; my parents are now both dead.
John's dad lives in Richmond, VA, and we just visited him and his 4th wife! (Keeps him young!)
Thanks for getting us going again...anyone who comes to Las Vegas, look us up or at least give a call! We are always glad to show people around our exciting city, and John is an expert gambler, ready to give lessons on any of the games at any time!

Thanks for sending the Website. Great job, except I need to figure out how to get the photos larger and then figure out who everyone is.
Was sorry to have missed the 40th. I had such a good time at the 20th that I didn't want to jinx things.
Am living in Naples, FL, work at Naples Botanical Garden. Two children, one and 1/3 grandchildren.
Jim and I divorced in 1990, but still good friends. I'm single, bought a home 3 years ago which means I can retire when I'm about 87!!! Still see my friend Beth Yokum (Holler) at least once a year and have friends in Columbus who keep me in touch. (Marcia Larson (Connor), Bev Redman) Anyone gets down this way, give me a call - I'll give you the 50 cent tour of our particular  brand of paradise.

I have to thank Nick Cook for calling me re the reunion. It was fun catching up with him.

I really haven't had any contact with anyone from NHS since the 60s. I came across the Classmates link and for grins I took a look at Newark. Limited information there but your follow-up email was VERY interesting and appreciated. I left Newark in 1960 but saw many names, if not faces, that I remember. Yours being one of them.

I, like you, am in the internet business with JobMark.com. I started this after many years of engineering and selling in the high tech industry. I have lived in Massachusetts for 25 years and have 3 children.

If I had known of (or even thought to check) the reunion this year I probably would have gone.

It sounds like your have had a good life and are doing well. Keep up the good work on the site and keep in touch.

Quiet Quibble: Rudolph with your nose so bright, won't you take me home tonight? (Mealness)"

Dear Dale,

Since you asked about my life after NHS, here's a brief synopsis:
I married Bob Larson and we will be celebrating our 36th anniversary in December.
(And they said it wouldn't last!)
We have no children so we just borrow some when we want a few laughs.

As far as my professional life is concerned, it's been very diverse. I've taught school, sold real
estate and for the past 13 years, I've been a sales representative for a foodservice broker.
This profession enables me to do the two things I do best-eat and talk.

I see or talk to Linda Swartz Bradford, Molly Barrett Widdis, Margaret Sprague Oviatt, Jane Skinner Minihan, Sharon DePalmo Vaughn Feronne and Sally Vaughn Richardson. ( If Sharon gets married again, you're going to need a bigger web site).

Kindest Regards,

Marcia (Conner) Larson

I have lived in St.. Augustine, Florida for nearly 30 years.
I love being a critical care nurse at the local hospital.
My daughter, my only child, is a critical care nurse too. She is still in school to be a nurse anesthetist. No grandchildren yet, but I am hoping.

Emmett and I are now the proud owners of a 1975 Airstream. Camping is great with air conditioning, heat, and comfortable beds. We are visiting the Florida Springs. Thanks to the Airstream we are experienced plumbers  and electricians.

Carol sent along some pictures from our 2001 reunion.
A big thank you for that.

What a great time, Nerk was never more interesting.
Dale you have done a real service for your friends and classmates.

Well here's my story.
I dropped out in 1960 but got my GED in 1961 while I was in the Army so I consider myself as a member of  the class of 61. My wife of 37 years and I have two daughters ages 28 & 25. I spent some years as a  policeman in N. W. Ohio, when I left the department. I got into steel sales and ultimately became a V.P. of the company. I am  now semi-retired and live in Charlottesville, Va. where I do part time security work and am a Deputy Sheriff for  the County.
Please feel free to contact me anytime.

Quiet Quibble: Those long stairs, cold rooms and falling plaster of good old NHS. May she rest in peace"

Thank you for the opportunity to learn about and share memories with those people that were such an important part of our lives 40 plus years ago.
I currently live east of Newark near the Logenberger basket.

My address is:

Newark, Ohio 43055

I am a retired Professor from the College of Education at Kent State University. My wife, Patty, is a Physical Therapist at the old Starlite School working with MRDD children. We have five children with one still at home.
Following high school I worked at Western Electric until I enlisted in the military. After two tours in Viet Nam I used my GI Bill to pursue my lifelong goal of becoming a Teacher. I taught for 10 years in secondary education, was a school administrator for six years, and finally 15 years in higher education.

I would really enjoy hearing from or seeing any of my NHS classmates.

Quiet Quibble: That last-name habit, straw-talk and small signs on double doors. (Can I buy that?)"

Dear Dale,

By the way, you have done a superb job and I envy your computer prowess. I took computer
graphic courses two years ago and fell in love with the MAC and hope to acquire one in the near
future. I am disappointed to hear no one danced at the last reunion. If I had been there and
someone asked me, I would have.

Dale, have you heard anything from Kristen Ree (McKinney) or Lynne Reed (Rodda). I had hoped
they would be registered with the Newark classmates. Ted Glover E-mailed me about the reunion,
however, it was too late for me to make plans to attend. (That's OK, Ted & Ruth didn't make it either) Do you have a roster from left to right.....for people such as me who have not attended
reunions for so long that we don't recognize very many faces.
(She is not alone is she? I was there (the 40th) and still don't know everyone in the picture.)

Here is an update on me. Please feel free to edit this info or any of the above. I am assuming you
receive and then put into the chat area. Again thanks for taking time to keep us informed.

For the last two years I have worked as the Executive Director of Rawls Museum Arts in Courtland,
Virginia. This position provides more passion that profit. and of course like any job there is a love
hate relationship. Prior to that for seven years I worked as the Public Relations Director of the
d'ART Center in Norfolk, Virginia. That center houses nearly 40 working artists in studios. From
that job, I established strong friendships with several artists. In fact, I think of many as my extended family, since I have no children and was an only child. And except for cousins in Massena New
York and a Black Tuxedo cat that I absolutely adore, I am currently on my own.

This summer was quite a blockbuster for me. My significant other of eight years and I parted ways, but before we did, I bought the old Victorian home that we lived in. Can you believe it -- Most people in my class are thinking of retiring and I just put myself in debt for a longggggggggggggggg time. I love my home and it is so delightful to come home to after a hard days work.

My second passion is dance. Two nights a week I am either tapping, doing Latin line dance or creative jazz. I have been in several recitals and really enjoy the costuming. It's not that I am so great, just love that adrenaline flow of the footlights. . Most of the people I take dance with are like me, couldn't or didn't do when younger, so make up for it now. I would love to hear if there are any other dance nuts that grew out of the Class of '61.

Barbara (Easton) Moore
